Mount Elgon Hiking

9 Days / 8 Nights

Mount Elgon is a prime trekking mountain in East Africa. It is a huge volcano with the largest crater of the major peaks in Africa. The caldera is one of the world's largest. It is less crowded than Kilimanjaro, just as spectacular, and since there are less people on the slopes, you have a much greater chance of spotting wildlife. There are several waterfalls on the slopes, and there are even hot springs to soak in inside the crater! Climbing the mountain is an experience not soon forgotten.

What "Orogu" means

Orogu means patas monkey (Erythrocebus patas) in Madi (one of the many local lingua spoken in the West Nile region of Uganda) dialect. Also known as known as the wadi monkey or hussar monkey, is a ground-dwelling monkey distributed over semi-arid areas of West and East Africa.

It is the only species classified in the genus Erythrocebus. Recent phylogenetic evidence indicates that it is the closest relative of the vervet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops), suggesting nomenclatural revision.]

I came up with this name due to behaviour, social life, defensive abilities, nature, gentleness, cleanness, humility and good conduct. The smart red coat and solider-like white moustache of the Patas Monkey has led to them also being commonly known as "Military Monkeys".
